Organic farming and eco-friendly cultivation are spreading a lot in modern agriculture, but conventional farming methods using chemical fertilizers and pesticides are still popular for its early harvesting, increased yields, and pest prevention.

Doosung Bio (CEO : Byung-taek, Lee) has been continuing their research on saving land through biological methods by repeating numerous experiments in which complex microorganisms and organic fertilizers containing natural elements act on land and crops in a natural environment for the past 20 years. Through this, it has recently succeeded in producing “Tosaeng Water” that can produce phytochemical-rich crops by evenly distributing various nutrients needed by plants by decomposing heavy metals, remnants of various organic, pesticide, and chemical fertilizers in the soil.

“Tosaeng Water” introduced by Doosung Bio (CEO : Byung-taek, Lee) is a product that cultivates complex microbial groups, collects useful microorganisms in a natural condition, ferments them through the “Natural Purification Method” with three special substances added. After that, it goes through the process of applying quantum-mechanical wave energy that doubles the activity of microorganisms. In addition, it goes through the process of adding microorganisms essential for farming, supplied by the Korea Institute of Biological Resources, and microbial deodorizing bacteria. Finally, it is introduced to the market after being put into a dormant state at low temperatures so that the product can be preserved and used for a long time through the filtration and the “vortex water purification method.”

Doosung Bio made natural N (nitrogen). H3PO4 (phosphoric acid) present in the natural world acts as a catalyst to speed up the rate of activity of microorganisms. It complements K (potassium) and Ca (calcium) and allows trace amounts of B (boron) and Mo (molybdenum) to act organically so that they can quickly take effect on crops within two to three days.

Doosung Bio’s “Tosaeng Water” is a product that has already been verified even before the product was produced. Since the past three years, farmers who have used “Tosaeng Water” on a trial basis have been increasingly satisfied with the product as they have been effective through the product, and more and more farmers are looking for native water just by word of mouth.

In Muan, Jeollanam-do in the Southern area of the Korean peninsula, most of the pepper farmers suffered from a poor harvest of dead peppers damaged by late frost this year, and only one farm which used “Tosaeng Water” was able to survive. In Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do in the Western area of South Korea, due to poor management of freshwater in Okcheon Port, the seawater flows back to the surrounding rice paddies, which makes the planted rice submerged in seawater for 7 hours. After 6 bottles about 250 millimeters of “Tosaeng Water” were sprayed in 1.7 ha twice for the cure, they were able to achieve normal harvests.

In the Deodeok field in Jeju-si, herbicides were mistaken as nutritional supplements and damaged crops. For recovery, farmers sprayed “Tosaeng Water”, which enabled successful harvest.

In addition, various places, such as Muan fig orchards and Chungju farms, show good harvest examples by using “Tosaeng Water”.

In addition, Doosung Bio is speeding up the production of natural deodorants that have an excellent effect on odor removal.

The natural deodorizer of Doosung Bio consists of a group of microorganisms whose odor elements were fully decomposed by controlling the amount of nitrogen in ammonia and hydrogen sulfide which are considered as the main culprit of odor. The deodorizer proved its excellence by getting rid of the smell of leather sheets (formaldehyde) made by Shermack International, hotel rooms, livestock, farms, and fish markets. For the next move, the company will also enter broader business industries, including the food extinction machine business, fish farms, and aquaponic business, livestock animal quarantine project, in combination with Gyeongnam Yangsan Goryeo Filter Co., Ltd. and Changnyeong Itov Co., Ltd.

Doosung Bio expects sales of its products to surge from 2023 after farming is completed next year if sales take place in earnest from the spring farming season early next year. To this end, the company is also making every effort to prepare for production and sales, such as expanding production facilities.

Summer is just around the corner, which means many are struggling to shed off those last few pounds to be beach body ready. Juice cleanses are the current trend for a weight loss method and juice bars have been spreading all throughout California. Now, the trend has finally hit Koreatown, LA.

Opened in February of this year, Oppa Juicery has since been receiving the spotlight as the go-to place for organic cold pressed juice. Unlike other juice bars, Oppa Juicery guarantees that their juices are 100% organic with no preservatives or water added and is GMO (“Genetically Modified Organism”) and HPP (“High Pressure Processing”) free. The juices are made fresh daily from just fruits and vegetables, and are also contained in environmental-friendly BPA (“Bispheonl A”) free containers.

“My team and I started Oppa Juicery because majority of the people in our community are stuck in a lifestyle with bad outdoor eating habits and bombarded with work, which causes us to not take care of our health as much as we would like to. We want to help people regain their energy by providing the highest quality products our community deserves,” said Alex Sohn, co-owner of Oppa Juicery. The juicery offers a total of 12 different flavors at an affordable price of $7 per bottle, whereas the average prices at other juice bars are $10 and up. Located on the second floor of WilFit Sports Club on Wilshire and Normandie, many have shown a positive response on social media to the juicery’s presence.

Another unique quality that Oppa Juicery acquires is that they offer free delivery within Koreatown, LA. The Detox Cleanse Program offers three different choices where you can first start off with a 1-day Soft Detox, 3-day Full Detox and then the 5-day Complete Detox to start actually getting results. There is also the option of creating your own program. By drinking the bottles of juice and water, this allows the body to gain rich, natural nutrition and vitamins while avoiding unhealthy drinks or foods for a certain amount of time.

“We came up with the name ‘Oppa Juicery’ because it’s easy to remember and it’s a catchy name. Also, the word ‘oppa’ has a meaning and intent where an older male figure takes care of the young ones. We are a group of young, hardworking working-class content creators living in Koreatown who wish to make ourselves and the people within our community healthier, less tired, and more energized to make some changes in our lives, at work and to our family and community,” said Sohn.

The move toward natural, organic and healthy products is not a fad, but a societal shift that is poised to grow to $226 billion by 2018 with an annual growth rate of 8.6%. New Hope Natural Media, a division of professional information services company Penton, recently announced Natural Products Expo West (NPEW) concluded a record-breaking event on March 6-9 at the Anaheim Convention Center in CA. The event grew 5% bringing together over 67,000 industry members, more than 2,600 exhibiting companies and the most first-time exhibitors in the event’s history. From food and beverage to supplements and beauty to household and pet products, the event provided a window into the many categories driving the growth of the global natural products industry.
“As we wrap up the 34th annual Natural Products Expo, we are proud of our commitment to the natural, organic and healthy living community,” stated Adam Anderson, Show Director for NPEW. “The macro trend and shift to healthier lifestyles created explosive growth this year. Our conference sessions offered attendees with the vital industry intelligence and the exhibit floor buzzed with activity as attendees met the passionate individuals behind the brands on the shelves today and the products of the future.” President Weonki Lee from aT center LA, a Korea Agro-Trade Center based in Los Angeles, stated that this was their 6th consecutive year at the NPEW and they are planning on continuing to participate at the expo as they have received such positive responses and feedbacks from various multi-ethnic consumers to distributers. He also stated that he is proud that there are many other Korean brands that participate at the expo and that there were many new brands participating for the first time ever this year as well such as Korean Ginseng Corporation (KGC).
The new trend that we find were the “superfoods” which are nutrient and mineral foods at this year’s NPEW, where the word was first coined by nutritional research physician, Dr. Steven Pratt. In particular, quinoa and chia seeds were receiving the limelight as an ingredient in various foods and drinks of Central and South America. Headquartered in Ontario, CA, an organic instant rice company Minsley, are committed to manufacturing and distributing excellent quality of healthy meals in minutes. “In contrast to last year, the price of quinoa went up three times more. I think quinoa is going to be quite trendy for quite some time as it is such high level in protein and you can just add it to milk, juice, or any types of liquid,” stated Tae-jin Song, President of Minsley. Another prominent item that was included as a main ingredient in many foods and drinks was coconut, which comes to no surprise as this seems to be a recurring hot item yearly. Other recurring hot trends for food and drinks were tea products, gluten-free products, tofu, and many more.
Natural Products Expo East 2014 will return to the Baltimore Convention Center in the fall on September 17-20 in Baltimore, MD. Natural Products Expo West 2015 is scheduled to take place March 5-8 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA.
