Do-min Lee, lead effects artist, talks about what he worked on with his team in “How to Train Your Dragon 2”

“How to Train Your Dragon 2” is a DreamWorks film, distributed by Twentieth Century Fox. It is the highest grossing and best reviewed animated film of the year, and is now released on Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD. One of the huge factors of the box-office hit is visual effects and one of the visual effects artists is Korean who worked as a leader in the movie.
Lead effects artist Do-min Lee worked in many success animation movies like “Kung Fu Panda” and “Shrek Forever After”. On the making of “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” Lee stated that making fantasy animation with characters that do not exist with realistic fire, water and ice was one of his team’s challenges. He also mentioned that there was one scene that only used pure physical simulation, which is hard to be seen in an animation movie. Lee refers that “How to Train Your Dragon 2” is more dramatic and a bigger scale than the first film and he feels honored that the film has been nominated for an Oscar.
