Oriental medicine to likely become mainstream in medicine

It has already been 40 years since Korean oriental medical was first introduced to the U.S.A. In early 1970s, President Nixon started ping-pong diplomacy with China and Chinese oriental medicine was introduced to the U.S.A. At that time, Korean medicine was also introduced. Korean oriental medicine was not welcome due to western medicine’s dominance at the beginning stage of its introduction. However, its circumstance was totally different now. Oriental medicine has grown in stature as alternative medicine and many Americans start to pay great attention to oriental medicine.

The department of oriental medicine is required to open in big general hospitals in the U.S., and American major media widely introduces the excellence of oriental medicine. Considering this trend, oriental medicine is likely to be a part of mainstream medicine in the world and an oriental medicine doctor seems to be one of the most promising jobs.

The reason why oriental medicine is in the limelight is that it can prevent diseases in advance while western medicine cures diseases. Its medical concept to prevent diseases in advance before the outbreak of the disease needs to be introduced to western medicine, in order to cure incurable diseases including cancer.

The visiting rate of other ethnic patients except Asians to oriental medical clinics in the U.S. is significantly increasing. It would be much easier for Korean oriental medical doctors to enter the mainstream and the job would become more popular and stable than any other jobs in case they speak English fluently. Koreans who live in the states where there are neither Korean oriental medical doctors nor Chinese community have difficulty in taking care of their health. Therefore, Korean oriental medical doctors need to enter the U.S. In fact, people in middle-high class in the U.S. tend to prefer oriental medical therapy which does not have a side effect, and they have a well-covered medical insurance. Many oriental medical doctors who open their clinic in the wealthy community guarantee very high and stable income.
