Renault Samsung Motors’ crossover QM3 has grabbed the local auto industry’s attention from the start, receiving 1,000 preorders in just seven minutes ― a record for any carmaker in Korea.

It sold more than 16,000 units as of November since its launch in December 2013. The QM3 is the only foreign-brand model in Korea with sales of more than 10,000 units.

Design, fuel efficiency and price were all factors that bolstered the success of the QM3.

This year, Renault Samsung Motors released the 2015 model that has taken into consideration the features demanded by domestic customers.

Leather seats, automatically adjustable outside mirrors and a new marine color were added to give customers a wider variety to choose from.

The QM3 1.5-liter diesel model has a record fuel efficiency of 18.5 kilometers per liter, the highest in the crossover segment.

Costs are also more than reasonable, with sticker prices starting at 22.8 million won ($20,700), which is lower than the 30 million won for the same models sold in Europe.

In Europe, the QM3 ― sold under the name Captur ― received the top five-star level on the European New Car Assessment Program in the category of safety.
