This past week, two Korean students, Sophia Lee, a senior at La Sierra H.S. in Riverside, and Whan (Kevin) Yoon, a senior at Oxford Academy in Cypress, were both named 2015 Edison Scholars and awarded $40,000 scholarships. Edison International has been making surprise visits to present the $40,000 Edison Scholars checks to the awardees.

Each year, the utility awards 30 scholarships valued at $40,000 each to underrepresented high school seniors planning to pursue college studies in science, technology, engineering or math, also known as STEM. Sophia plans to major in chemical engineering.

Each year, the utility awards high school seniors in its service territory $40,000 scholarships each to 30 underrepresented students pursuing college studies in science, technology, engineering or math, also known as STEM.
