Three workers at SK hynix were killed in a gers leak Thursday.
The accident occurred in the M14 plant under construction at the company’s complex in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
A company official said that the workers were test-running a newly installed scrubber air filtration system when it filled with nitrogen gas.
The official was unable to confirm further details, saying the company was following up on the developments.
The M14 plant is a major new production line into which the company injected about 2 trillion won ($187 million) in the first quarter of this year alone. Manufacturing equipment is to be installed during the second quarter, with operations to begin in the final quarter.
This is the second gas leak to occur at the company’s Icheon facility in as many months.
In March, 13 workers received medical treatment after being exposed to gas that leaked from an air pollution treatment vent.
Another gas leak occurred at the Icheon facility in July 2014 that led to two factory workers receiving medical treatment.
