The Seoul government said Monday there were no reports related to the Middle East respiratory syndrome in North Korea over the weekend, and no changes have been made regarding South Koreans crossing the North Korean border.
The heat detecting cameras provided by the South last Friday will also be installed in the North Korean side of the immigration office for those commuting to Gaeseong Industrial Park, the officials said.
Seoul had sent three heat-sensing cameras to Gaeseong following Pyongyang’s request earlier last week.
Last November, Seoul had lent the devices, each worth 15 million won ($13,000), to help brace for a possible spread of the Ebola virus across the district where some 53,000 North Koreans are employed.
South Koreans will separately be checked for signs of fever before and after they enter the border city.
The North has shown high interest in the MERS outbreak in South Korea since its state media delivered the news for the first time on May 23.
