Most of the energy currently used by humans is generated by fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are buried underground fuels, such as coal, oil, natural gas, and so on. Since the Industrial Revolution, which began in the 18th century England, greenhouse gas emissions have increased rapidly and the average global temperature has risen 0.6 degrees in the last 100 years. In this way, as the average temperature of the earth rises rapidly, an abnormal climate phenomenon appears, and global warming becomes an important issue.
Global warming caused an abnormal climate phenomenon all over the world, such as a decrease in glaciers and sea level rise, as well as a higher of natural disasters frequency such as droughts, floods and typhoons. These abnormal climate phenomena have a bad influence on various areas of ecosystems and society as a whole and threatened human existence. As a solution of this problem, many countries began to take proper measures to reduce environmental pollution and improve the quality of life.
As these efforts, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was adopted at the Brazilian Rio Environment Conference in June 1992 to prevent climate change from global warming. The UNFCCC was adopted for the prevention of abnormal weather conditions due to global warming. It was signed by 154 countries, and made issue a public statement on March 21, 1994.
To prevent climate change due to global warming, we’d first have to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide. Additionally, we must struggle to find new energy that does not affect the environment while reducing dependence on fossil fuels. What kind of new energy is in the world? – That is, solar energy, geothermal energy, marine energy, bio energy, waste energy and etc.
Eastern R&E Co. in South Korea is a manufacturer of alternative energy with waste plastics emulsification technology. They produce alternative energy by decomposing waste plastics to produce high quality oil and power. Plastic is made by synthesizing raw materials produced from petroleum, and it becomes petroleum again after pyrolysis and oiling process. Waste plastics, which have been suffering from waste disposal after use are reborn as resources.
Eastern R&E has been recognized for its technology and expertise in the petrochemical business by acquiring technology patents in overseas markets such as the US, Europe and Japan. Eastern R&E has been accelerating its overseas by developing of movable contact catalyst technology that does not contain by-products.
The greatest feature of the movable catalytic technology is that the waste plastics are quickly decomposed into oil by the continuously circulating catalyst, and the carbon generated during the decomposition is absorbed by the catalyst and burned in all, thereby enabling disposal of a large amount of waste plastics. The catalytic technology enables the environmentally friendly treatment of waste plastics and the production of renewable energy at the same time.
The contact catalytic technology is also capable of treating waste plastics of about 30,000 tons per year (about 100 tons per day, 300 days of operation per year). Eastern R&E has built a system capable of mass-production of emulsified products through a movable contact catalytic pyrolysis process. Additionally, they produce about 12,000 tons (about 40 tons per day, 300 days of operation) of petroleum products annually and produce about 77,000 MWh of electricity annually. These oils are being used as raw materials for industrial fuel oil and petrochemical products, and are becoming eco-friendly technologies to reduce environmental pollution.
