North Korea’s media derided former South Korean President Lee Myung-bak on Wednesday for his controversial memoir, while the communist regime has not issued any formal response yet.
The Rodong Sinmun, published by the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, called Lee a “political idiot” and claimed his book, titled “President’s Time,” is filled with lies.
But it did not mention Lee’s disclosure that the North repeatedly offered summit talks and demanded $10 billion in return as well as shipments of food and fertilizer.
The newspaper argued Lee deserves public criticism over what he did during his five-year term from 2008 to 2013 and that he should write a book on his wrongdoing.
In the book made public earlier this week, he provided detailed accounts of inter-Korean relations, including Pyongyang’s summit proposal and secret meetings between the two sides, when he was serving as president.
The Seoul-Pyongyang relations were at their lowest ebb in recent years while Lee was in office.
Lee also boasted about what he calls a principles-based approach toward the nuclear-armed North. (Yonhap)
