Attempts to introduce artificial intelligence are being made in all fields. The medical field is no exception, with Chat GPT already providing medical counseling. In particular, Chat GPT is gaining popularity because it can quickly respond to all types of questions.

But there is not only a rosy future. There are also many concerns that the rapid application of artificial intelligence technology can cause risks in the medical field. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA Oncology), serious defects were found in the medical advice presented by Chat GPT for cancer treatment. In a study jointly conducted by Boston Children’s Hospital and others, the researchers created 104 questionnaires related to lung cancer, prostate cancer, and breast cancer and asked Chat GPT to recommend a treatment. The answers presented by Chat GPT were reviewed by four oncologists according to five criteria and scored. To measure the quality of advice given by Chat GPT to patients, we compared it with cancer treatment guidelines from the U.S. Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). As a result of the review, as many as 34.3% of Chat GPT presented one or more treatment recommendations that did not match NCCN. In addition, about 13% of the responses presented by Chat GPT showed “welcome.” This may sound true, but it means that it is completely inaccurate or unrelated to the question. Dr. Harvey Castro, an emergency medical specialist and AI expert, pointed out, “It is an important concern because incorrect information can lead to harmful decisions by patients.” “The Chat GPT’s response can sound very human-like and quite convincing,” said Daniel Bitterman, co-author of the study and assistant professor of radiation oncology at Harvard Medical School. “The problem is that there are subtle differences between patients in clinical decisions.” “The answer can be very subtle, so ChatGPT or other large-scale language models are not yet available,” Bitterman stressed.

An unmanned taxi (robot taxi) service that runs 24 hours a day without a driver has been launched in San Francisco. However, there are concerns that this robot taxi could become a 24-hour love hotel. The San Francisco Standard published an article interviewing four users who had sex at a robot taxi. The media claimed that sexual intercourse is taking place in RoboTaxi, but no one mentions it.
A passenger named Alex said he had sex three times in a robot taxi. “I think I’m a trailblazer,” he said. “It’s fun to realize that it’s a place where you can do this in the United States.”A passenger named Meghan said, “It’s not ideal, but we were in a public place and it was more fun and interesting because the act was prohibited.”
This proves that concerns that “robotaxi can be used as a place for sex” have come to reality over the years. In 2019, a video of a couple having sex in a Tesla moving through an autopilot, an autonomous driving device, spread.

At the time, CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter, “There were more ways to use autopilot than we imagined,” adding, “I should have known this would happen.”In a report published in the journal “The Annals of Tourism Research” in 2018, there was also a saying that hotels used on an hourly basis are likely to be replaced by autonomous vehicles.Currently, in San Francisco, GM’s self-driving car Cruise and Google’s Waymo have been licensed to operate 24 hours a day since the 10th.
Cruise operates 300 vehicles at night and 100 vehicles during the day, while Waymo operates 250 vehicles.Cruise and Waymo vehicles have cameras and microphones not only outside but also inside. These devices are used for passenger safety and support. In the case of microphones, it is known that they are activated only during passenger support calls. In the meantime, the media explained that sex in an unmanned taxi may be in violation of the usage regulations.”In order for users to use the service, they must sign a rule that they will not engage in illegal or inappropriate behavior,” Cruz said. “Sex in the vehicle can be an ‘inappropriate behavior’.”

“It will bring huge profits to investors if it is successful,” he said, adding that it will take at least one to two years to sell vision funds after listing.”It is known that Son Jung-eui leaves advice to the outside and does not engage in deliberation.

Japan’s Softbank is negotiating with Vision Fund to acquire the remaining stake in British semiconductor designer Arm. Japan’s Softbank is said to be negotiating with Vision Fund to acquire the remaining stake in British semiconductor designer Arm. It is known that Samsung of Korea also expressed its intention to acquire Softbank several times. Softbank is in negotiations to acquire a 25% stake in ARM held by Vision Fund 1, a venture capital fund it operates. Currently, ARM’s stake is divided into 75% of Softbank and 25% of Vision Fund. The negotiations come as SoftBank is currently preparing to list ARM on the Nasdaq sometime next month. The market capitalization is expected to reach $60 billion to $70 billion. Once the negotiations are completed, Softbank expects to give huge profits to investors in Vision Fund 1, including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIE) and Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala.Until now, Vision Fund 1 has suffered huge losses due to failed investments in companies such as WeWork, a shared office company, and Didi Chuxing, a vehicle-sharing company. The acquisition appears to have been made in consideration of the possibility that the plan to sell ARM shares in the market after the IPO will take at least one to two years considering the size of the stake and that the stock will fall after the listing. Softbank Chairman Son Jung-eui said he is currently consulting external investment bank Rain Group and is not participating in related deliberations. In addition, the acquisition price under discussion between the two sides is not known, and there is a possibility that the negotiations may fail.Another source said that if negotiations take place, Softbank could hold about 85 to 90% of its stake by reducing the size of the sale of its stake in ARM at the time of IPO. Softbank acquired ARM for $32 billion in 2016. ARM is a British company that designs application processors (APs) and graphics processing units (GPUs) for smartphones and holds related patents.

According to China’s Cheil Industries and others, Huawei introduced an industrial business AI model version 3.0 that can be used in various industries such as finance, administration, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals at the “Huawei Developer Conference 2023” held in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China on the 7th.
According to Huawei Cloud, Pangu 3.0 has up to 100 billion parameter functions. It allows various customers to train AI models according to their needs. Pangu 3.0 provides more personalization functions and safety to users compared to Chat GPT and Bing, which are AI models in the United States. It provides solutions optimized for the Chinese language environment by enhancing its performance in the field of Chinese natural language processing (NLP). Zhang Pingan, Huawei’s executive director and Huawei’s cloud CEO, said Pangu 3.0 will “reorganize thousands of industries.”Baidu and Alibaba have entered the Chinese version of Chat GPT market, but Huawei has cited examples in some areas, emphasizing that unlike them, it is an optimized model for industrial business markets.A typical field is weather forecasting models. Huawei explained that Pangu Weather is the first AI prediction model that shows higher precision than traditional numerical weather forecasting methods. He stressed that using this model can improve the prediction speed by 10,000 times, reducing the global weather forecast time to just a few seconds. On the 5th, the international academic journal “Nature” also published a paper on Huawei’s plate weather.According to Huawei, four to five hours of simulation was needed to predict the trajectory of the typhoon over the next 10 days in a high-performance cluster of 3,000 servers in the past, which Pangu Weather claimed could be processed in 10 seconds on a single graphics processing unit (GPU) of a single server. The plate mining model increased the operational stability of underground coal mines.

It has the advantage of being able to handle 1000 sub-works for the seven major work processes of the coal mine and monitoring the underground situation from the ground. In the railway sector, 67 types of trucks and more than 430 types of failures can be accurately identified. The accuracy is 99.8 per cent. Assuming that an average of 1,000 trains pass through the station every day, 260 train inspectors had to visually check 4 million images every day. Pangu railway models can quickly scan all images and filter 3.8 million defect-free images. It can process 95% of the entire image. Huawei explained that this greatly improves efficiency as train inspectors only need to process the remaining 200,000 images. In addition to these fields, R&D costs can be reduced by 70% when used in the field of drug molecular models. In the case of manufacturing, it helps to increase efficiency and save money. In the past, three hours were needed to make a one-day plan, but with the Pangu model, it is possible to make a three-day plan in just one minute.Pangu 3.0 is also characterized by training and learning through Huawei’s own AI processor “Sungtung (English name Ascend)” and AI computing framework “Sungs” (English name MindSpore) instead of GPUs that are mainly used in the industry. CEO Jang said, “As Chinese companies have to spend high prices and a long time to secure NVIDIA GPUs, it is difficult to keep up with the ever-increasing demand for computing power,” adding, “We hope Huawei will provide an alternative to computing power.”

Since the advent of the generative artificial intelligence (AI) service “Chat GPT,” AI craze has been blowing around the world. Governments and companies around the world, including the U.S. and China, are scrambling for generative AI. However, Japan, which has led the high-tech market in the past, is relatively quiet.CNBC, a U.S. economic media outlet, said, “Japan is lagging behind in the generative AI market,” citing a lack of software engineers to take charge of the LLM (Large Language Model), the core of AI development, and supercomputers to perform it.AI-related signs installed at the trade fair ‘Next Tech Week Tokyo 2023’ held in Tokyo, Japan on May 10. LLM development is actively taking place in the U.S. and China. China’s Alibaba and Tencent have introduced at least 79 LLMs in China over the past three years. In the U.S., Google and Microsoft (MS), as well as open AI that released Chat GPT, are leading LLM development. On the other hand, Japan lags behind the United States, China, and Europe in terms of the size and speed of LLM development. First of all, there is a lack of software developers to develop LLM. According to Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, 789,000 software developers are expected to be short in Japan by 2030.

Noriyuki Kojima, co-founder of Japanese AI startup “Kotoba Technology,” told CNBC, “Japan’s sluggishness in the generative AI field is mainly due to a relative lack of deep learning and software development.”Supercomputers such as IBM’s “Bella” are needed to develop LLM, but Japan is also lacking. Nikkei (Nihon Keizai Shimbun) pointed out in May that “high-performance supercomputers are needed to build LLM, but none of the Japanese companies have world-class supercomputers.” The Japanese government plans to invest 6.8 billion yen to install supercomputers in Hokkaido as early as next year.Of course, there are companies in Japan that are interested in generative AI. ARM, a British semiconductor designer owned by Japan’s Softbank, announced in June that it plans to develop its own generative AI platform. NTT, a Japanese telecommunications company, also announced that it will develop its own LLM to create light and efficient services. NTT plans to invest 8 trillion yen in the data center and AI sectors over the next five years.

How do consumers accept artificial intelligence (AI), which is rapidly being introduced into various industries? A recent SAS survey of 500 Americans found that consumers are more comfortable with AI technology in the healthcare industry than in finance or retail. In particular, 47% of the respondents said they would be willing to get help from artificial intelligence technology even during surgery. In addition, six out of ten (60%) felt comfortable about doctors using data from wearable devices such as Apple Watch and Fitbit to assess and advise their lifestyles. Compared to these, it is a more advanced company in the platform of excellent infomining, especially in the medical healthcare sector.

In fact, artificial intelligence is rapidly entering the healthcare sector, providing new solutions to complex and expensive medical problems. In order to successfully utilize artificial intelligence, you need to build an analytical organization that thinks analytically, and as part of that effort, you need to build an analytical platform.Artificial intelligence makes machines learn from their own experiences, adapt to new inputs, and perform tasks like humans. From chess game computers to self-driving cars, most of the AI cases we hear depend heavily on deep learning and natural language processing (NLP). With these technologies, computers are trained to perform certain tasks by processing vast amounts of data and recognizing patterns.

In the medical field, artificial intelligence uses algorithms and software to analyze complex medical data at a level similar to human cognition. The key objective is to analyze the relationship between prevention or treatment techniques and the patient’s outcomes. In fact, Infomining is a company that approached this more faithfully through university hospitals and non-face-to-face medical treatment or Chatbot, the largest healthcare Teladoc in the U.S., and Korea’s Sinchon Severance University Hospital, and Japan’s local government. This is the most realistic and practical approach to existing healthcare and medical care through proven technology and artificial intelligence.Another feature of the company is that it can be applied to a variety of fields, such as software, hardware experts, and representatives (Jae-yong Lee) and artificial intelligence development in language and compatibility through customization to industrial groups (Japan’s COVID-19 inoculation center, camping car, smart city’s medical infrastructure system), collective system (Incheon Airport entry and exit management). The company is moving forward to obtain medical certifications and permits with its future moves and investments already received.

“There is no doubt that AI will be a key driver of (semiconductor) silicon consumption in the near future,” adding, “Customers will receive sample chips in the third quarter, and production will increase at the end of the year.”He also boasted a system that combines eight MI300X chips into one computer. The system is competing with Nvidia’s similar products.Nvidia’s stock price has soared 170% this year.

Nvidia occupies 80-95% of the AI computing market. Although startups such as Intel and Cerebras have competitive products, there are virtually no large production competitors against Nvidia because it is a small amount of production. Nvidia’s leadership in this sector was possible because it has been providing software tools to AI researchers as well as chips for more than a decade and learning how to predict what is needed on chips that take years to design, Reuters explained. Experts were also divided over AMD’s ambitious plan. “Even if AMD’s software solutions are competitive in terms of hardware performance, we are still not convinced that they are competitive with Nvidia’s software solutions,” Moore Insight & Strategy said. However, Sumis Chintara, vice president of Meta, said, “We have worked closely with AMD to make it easier for AI developers to switch from one platform to another using free tools,” adding, “It doesn’t really take much work to move from one platform to another.”

Google, OpenAI, and Microsoft have been blocking access to AI chatbot services in Hong Kong in recent months.
In the case of Open AI, which operates Chat GPT, Hong Kong and mainland China were placed on the list of “restricted countries” alongside North Korea, Syria, and Iran.
These companies refused to answer why they blocked the use of chatbots in Hong Kong. However, the WSJ explained that this change is not irrelevant to the situation in which U.S. tech companies have become more inclined to treat Hong Kong as one of China’s cities, not as a global financial and business hub.Hong Kong’s Internet environment is not the same as before. Apple is reportedly filtering out “suspicious” websites with China’s Tencent in Hong Kong. Internet users protested that social media (SNS) mastodon, which has emerged as a rival to Twitter, and even legal sites have been blocked, but “filtering” is still ongoing. Websites that Tencent blocked from accessing in Hong Kong also included U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase and coding community GitHub.

Disney removed two episodes of the animated “The Simpsons” from Hong Kong’s online video service (OTT) that mentioned forced labor camps in China and the 1989 Tiananmen pro-democracy protests. According to an official familiar with the matter, the move is due to concerns over the violation of the Hong Kong National Security Law enacted in 2020.Attention is also being paid to the results of the Hong Kong court’s request for a ban on singing “Glory to Hong Kong” scheduled for the 12th.
The request to virtually ban “Glory to Hong Kong,” which anti-government protesters like to sing, also included blocking 32 related YouTube videos. It is the first time that a U.S. tech company has been involved in Songsa in earnest over politically sensitive content in Hong Kong.George Chen, who served as the head of the Chinese rental at Facebook’s parent company Meta, predicted that if the Hong Kong court accepts the blocking request, the authorities’ legal action against U.S. tech companies could be “bottled up.”Some point out that Hong Kong’s Internet environment has become closer to mainland China, where the Internet censorship system “Tanli Firewall” is located
Some Hong Kong residents are bypassing the virtual private network (VPN) as in mainland China as AI chatbots are blocked. Even a Hong Kong government spokesman emphasizes that it is still possible to use chatbots as alternative means such as VPN, saying that he respects Google’s “restricting access to Hong Kong.”The outflow of IT personnel is also continuing. Hong Kong, with a population of 7.5 million, is not a major market for U.S. tech companies in itself, but due to its unique free information distribution environment, companies and IT workers have chosen Hong Kong as their home base. However, over the past three years, tens of thousands of IT personnel have left Hong Kong, and one of the reasons is the contraction of freedom of expression.According to a survey released in March this year by the Hong Kong American Chamber of Commerce, only 38% of the respondents said they would have free access to the Internet and information platforms in Hong Kong over the next three years.Microsoft is also reportedly planning to move AI experts from Beijing to North America, not Hong Kong. Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA), which has also been called a “star training center” for producing a number of talented people leading the Chinese IT industry, will exclude key AI experts from China.China’s state-run Global Times commented on a report by the British Financial Times (FT) that Microsoft has begun the process of transferring high-quality AI personnel to Vancouver, Canada, saying, “It is a pure exaggeration that a research institute ‘threatens’ China’s talent development.”

Helion Energy, a fusion startup invested by Ultman, has signed an electricity supply contract with Microsoft. According to the contract, Helion will have to supply at least 50 MW (megawatt) of electricity to MS every year through fusion power generation from 2028.If Helion fails to comply with the contract, it must pay a penalty to MS. It is known that this is the first time that a contract for supplying electricity through nuclear fusion power has been signed. The WSJ pointed out that considering that mankind has not been able to produce electricity due to nuclear fusion power so far, the contents of such a contract are quite bold.Nuclear fusion power generation is a technology that creates energy by artificially causing reactions similar to nuclear fusion occurring in the sun on Earth. If such technology is commercialized, it is expected that electricity can be obtained virtually unlimitedly without emitting greenhouse gases or pollutants. However, many countries around the world, including the United States, have been investing astronomical research funds for decades since the 1950s, but nuclear fusion power generation has not been realized due to technical difficulties. Experts are expressing the view that commercializing fusion power will require at least decades of further research.Against this backdrop, Helion said it would commercialize nuclear fusion technology in just five years. For now, Helion plans to build a sample facility to demonstrate nuclear fusion power generation by next year. “The goal is to provide very cheap power to the world,” said Altman, CEO of Helion, who invested $375 million.CEO Altman explained that while running OpenAI, he visits Helion once a month to help with research progress and development. Microsoft, which has installed OpenAI’s Chat GPT in its products such as search engines and clouds, has maintained its partnership with Altman in the field of nuclear fusion power generation. Microsoft Vice Chairman Brad Smith said, “We would not have signed this contract without confidence that the development of nuclear fusion technology will accelerate,” adding, “We are optimistic about the commercialization of nuclear fusion.”

Amazon, the world’s largest cloud company that provides IT infrastructure to companies around the world, has joined the competition for generative artificial intelligence (AI) led by Microsoft (MS) and Open AI Alliance and Google. On the 13th (local time), Amazon unveiled ‘Titan’, a large language model (LLM), and ‘Bedrock’, a cloud service based on it. Just as OpenAI’s AI Chatbot “Chat GPT” understands natural language (human language) and creates sentences, Amazon’s Titan can also understand and generate natural language. It also extracts and summarizes information from text or supports customized searches. Titan is only available to corporate customers who have applied for Amazon Web Services’ Bedrock Cloud service. Titan and Bedrock are known to have been released in a preview manner only to some customers.Customers who use Bedrock Cloud can choose generative AI from several companies in addition to Titan.

Its strategy is to strengthen its position as an AI platform company by providing ‘generative AI comprehensive gift sets’ to customers.

(Source from Reuters/Alamy)
Amazon CEO Andy Jessie appeared on CNBC in the U.S. and said, “Most companies want to use a huge language model, but they are reluctant to do so because training alone costs billions of dollars and takes years.” Amazon explained that confidentiality can be maintained because the customer’s data is not used to train generative AI, but is all encrypted and stays only within the virtual network of the customer’s account.Until now, Amazon has been evaluated to be inferior to MS and Open AI Alliance and Google in the generative AI competition. It did not publish excellent papers on generative AI like Google or Open AI, nor did it consistently invest in generative AI companies like Microsoft. However, as Amazon, which occupies 40% of the global cloud market, decided to provide various generative AI services to customers on the same day, the industry analyzes that the AI ecosystem could be reorganized around Amazon. The Wall Street Journal said, “(Unlike MS investing only in open AI), Amazon is promoting itself as ‘Switzerland of the Cloud (meaning a neutral country)’ in a way that is not tied to one AI startup.”Microsoft is also introducing Chat GPT technology to the cloud, and Google is also upgrading to apply its own generative AI to Google Cloud. Microsoft and Google’s share of the cloud market is 20% and 10%, respectively, which are far behind Amazon.
