Sales events offer discounts on music albums

Streaming and downloading may be the most popular ways of listening to music these days, but for fans of physical albums, two upcoming events offer a chance to purchase LPs, CDs and DVDs at reduced prices.

Universal Music is holding special events at Garosu-gil and Sangsu-dong in Seoul, where visitors can browse and buy at discount prices a vast array of albums spanning classical music to pop music.

Deutsche Grammophon Yard Sale will take place at the Garosugil ODE Pop-up Store from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on April 17. Catalog albums from prestigious classical music label Deutsche Grammophon will be sold there at a discount,

Classical music aficionados will be able to find “111 The Piano,” the most popular of the label’s 111 series featuring recordings by legendary pianists, and the “100 Great Symphonies” limited edition box set, which contains 56 CDs, at reduced prices at the event.

In addition, rare recordings will also be available, including KBS 1FM “Music Masterpieces” presenter Jeong Man-seop’s “DG 20 box,” pianist Cho Seong-jin’s “2015 Winner of Chopin Competition LP,” albums of Martha Argerich, Maurizio Pollini and a previous winner of the Chopin Competition Krystian Zimerman.

Meanwhile, classical music critic Park Je-sung will give a free lecture about classical music at 3 p.m.

About a week later, the fourth Record Box Set Day will take place at Yri Cafe, Sangsu-dong, Mapo-gu from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 23.

The event, titled “Analogue Sensibility Project,” will feature a variety of music including pop, classical, jazz and K-pop music at reduced prices. Rare imported albums and box sets will be also available. A Korean fan club of the Beatles will be setting up a special zone for the band during the event.
